I’ve been raving to anyone who will listen about the information design of the new London bus route maps, so I’ve finally put up a little page of pix to illustrate my points…

Petafloptimism 
The maps are certainly an improvement. However the design doesn’t quite resolve the connection between the detailed central street map and the abstracted, Tube map-style surrounds. Also, to identify a particular route you need to follow the route to one of its terminii, which is a pain. The route number could easily be reversed out of the lines at regular intervals.
The new timetables are also an example of wonderful information design. A typical example can be found at:

We need Graphics International or some publication to do a piece on this important area of information design.
