BBC News moves to harness smartmobs.

Less than a year from Dan Gillmor’s “the former audience” Japanese camera phones moblogging-the-news scenario, the team at BBC News Interactive have made it reality:

“if you think you have a picture worth looking at, if you found yourself in the right place at the right time, send it to BBC News Online.

If you want to send your picture from your mobile phone, dial 07970 885089. You can send them from any network or phone.”

    I wonder though about their comment;

    “(usually 640×480 pixels) taken by the mobiles. Otherwise they are too small to publish.”

    Here in Japan the max. file size to e-mail from your celly is about 15k, therefore cam-phone images are limited to 160×120.. While my Sharp SH-52 can select/save hi-res. version on the SD memory card and export to my lap-top, does E.U have handset models capable of same..?!?

    BBC News to start publishing phonecam images from the public. Not exactly the revolutionary moment some suggest but an interesting portent nonetheless.
