S.H.I.E.L.D. gets support in Edinburgh

On the Grassmarket in Edinburgh, where I was staying last week, some wag had been chalking slogans of support for S.H.I.E.L.D. – the UNCLE/NATO-alike global security organisation in the Marvel Universe.

More curiously, they also seemed to have a thing for Solomon Kane, the dour puritan-swordsman hero of Robert E. Howard‘s pen.

On visiting wikipedia to find that REH link, I spy that today is the anniversary of Virginia Dare’s birthday and hence also the disappearance of the Roanoke colony…

  1. The S.H.I.E.L.D. scrawlings all over Edinburgh are created by one man. A local conspiricy theorist nutjob who believes that he is Nick Fury (A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent from the Marvel Comics universe). Completely harmless, but more than a little nuts.

  2. I’ve seen lot’s of these too. From Morningside to Leith Walk. Bizarre. Does the guy have an eyepatch?

  3. Yeah, i’ve seen those things and decided to put up a google to get some answers, didnt see the whole marvel reference behind it although i should have really, dont get me wrong i’m not a nutbag or anything close but does anybody know what the geez looks like? cos i think it would be pretty funny to meet him
